KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday sent former Malir SSP Rao Anwar and Shakil Feroz on a judicial remand in the Naqeebullah murder case after the time limit of their physical remand had ended.
The investigation team presented Anwar and Feroze in the court after a month-long investigation. Investigation officer (IO) Dr Rizwan informed the court that Anwar’s investigation was complete and further remand was not required.
The IO requested the court to give him time for submitting the final charge-sheet. The court accepted the request and sent both the accused to jail on a judicial remand while adjourning the hearing till May 2.
Earlier, Anwar was presented before the ATC’s administrative judge in the fake encounter case featuring the killing of Naqeebullah and three others.
Anwar’s counsel Mansoob, presenting his arguments, said the case registered against his client was dubious. “The cases registered against Naqeebullah Mehsud and his allies haven’t been declared false… my client cannot be declared as accused,” he added.
Constable Shakeel Feroz was also presented before the court.
Moreover, the judicial remand of DSP Qamar and 11 other police officials was extended.
“Let a JIT be formed… everything will become clear then,” Anwar told the media on his appearance before the court.
The armored car in which Anwar was brought to the ATC remained within the boundary of court. He was brought to court under the protocol of 15 police mobiles and was also shifted to central jail in the same protocol.
There was a whole lot of confusion among police officers in the Naqeebullah murder case. The officers submitted files at the ATC 2 instead of submitting them to the administrative judge. The files were brought back to the administrative court upon identification by the court staff.
