India yet to provide ransom money for Somali Pirates

Contribution needed for the release of 22 sailors, including four Pakistanis, from Somali pirates.

An Indian Senator has yet to provide money promised as contribution towards the ransom for the release of 22 sailors, including four Pakistanis, from Somali pirates.

The pirates are demanding 2.1 million dollars for the release of the sailors, who have been held hostage since August last year.

Human rights activist Ansar Burney told Express 24/7 that Pakistan and the shipping company -- which employees the hostages -- have pooled their share of the ransom money. But Indian Senator KD Singh has yet to give the pledged amount of 500,000 dollars.

Burney said he and Governor of Sindh Ishratul Ibad are doing their best to arrange the ransom.

Dreamer | 12 years ago | Reply @Paras Vikmani: I don't know if you can read, but it clearly states the out of 22 hostages, 4 are Pakistanis. Just for your information, 6 of them are Indians. So maybe you can keep your blind hatred to yourself. India isn't really a generous enough nation to help people from other countries. They can't even shelve out money to save their own people. Go get glasses, or go to school.

Just forget about this money, Indian philanthropy can be gauged from the fact that Mukesh Ambani decided to built a 27 storey mansion right next to the slums of Mumbai

Sameer | 12 years ago | Reply True India shouldn't pay a penny and God forbid if something happens in India the whole world should turn away their eyes and let them deal with their disasters. If India doesn't wishes to pay I think Pakistan can easily raise 500k Dollars. Our nation takes pride in helping out. Even during tough times we have been helping in Haiti, Japan and other places. Somebody said correctly that Indians have small hearts :)
