MULTAN: A woman allegedly killed her two-year-old nephew by giving him a poisonous substance. It was reported that a family dispute in Vehari District was her motive for the crime committed on Wednesday.

Melsi City Police official told The Express Tribune that three years ago, two couples tied-the-knot under a system of barter marriage in Madina Town.

He added Muhammad Meraj was married to Musarat, while Meraj’s sister Mubeena Naz married Musarat’s brother Muhammad Farooq.

He maintained that after developing differences with her husband, Musarat, along with her two-year-old son, came back to her parents’ home and started living with them.

However, Musarat’s sister-in-law Mubeena Naz criticised her for annoying her brother and ruining her parents' home and family life, the police official maintained.

He said this resulted in a fight between both women and in a bid to take revenge, Mubeena allegedly gave poison (Kala Pathar) to her two-year-old nephew Sheeraz.

The police said the body of the minor had been shifted to the District Headquarter Hospital for legal formalities.

The Initial medical report revealed that the poison consumed by the victim damaged his mouth, throat and stomach.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against Mubeena Naz and police claimed to have arrested the suspect.

Earlier, a woman, who poisoned milk to kill her husband, caused the death of 13 of her in-laws in Muzaffargarh after they drank it mixed in lassi.
