PESHAWAR: The Khyber Teaching Hospital’s (KTH) Orthopedic department held its first-ever live shoulder arthroscopy workshop.

The workshop was organized in collaboration with Pakistan Orthopedic Association (POA) Arthroscopy Forum.

Arthroscopy, a surgical procedure, is used by orthopaedic surgeons to visualise, diagnose and treat joint problems.

In an arthroscopic examination, an orthopaedic surgeon makes a small incision in the patient's skin and then inserts a pencil-sized instrument which contains a small camera and lighting system to magnify and illuminate the structures inside the joint. Light is transmitted through fibre optics to the end of the arthroscope that is inserted into the joint.

The workshop was conducted by POA Arthroscopy Forum Chairman Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Shah, Consultant Dr Kamran Butt and others.
