Indian man jailed for slapping colleague, causing permanent hearing loss in Dubai

The accused, 35, to be deported after serving his jail term

 

A 35-year old man was sentenced to three months in jail after he was charged with slapping his compatriot colleague, causing permanent injury in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to Khaleej Times, the Court of First Instance previously heard that the Indian man, working as an accountant, slapped his colleague and then proceeded to push him, causing him to fall down.

Forensic reports showed that the damage done had causing permanent partial hearing loss.



The defendant denied that charge and claimed that he was assaulted first. However, the court ruled him to be guilty and ordered that he be deported after serving his jail term.

The complainant, a 36-year-old Indian accountant, said that around 9:30am, on November 28, 2016, he was assaulted by his colleague, after he and the defendant had a conversation regarding the former’s salary being deducted.

“We had a verbal brawl which evolved into him pushing me and slapping me on my left ear. I lost balance and then fell down. I complained against him at Al Rashidiya Police Station.”



A witness to the incident told the prosecutor: "The victim approached me on that day asking about the reason behind his salary deduction. I told him that he did not report to work for some time and that he should talk to the other accountant - the accused - about that matter as he was the person in-charge. They had an argument later and then the defendant pushed him, causing him to fall down."
