ISTANBUL: An 18-year-old student died on Thursday after jumping on the track at a metro station in Istanbul, local media reported.

According to the Sabah daily, the high school student, a male identified as Baha Guzeycan, committed suicide by jumping on the track as a train was approaching the Sirkeci station of the Marmaray underground railway that connects the European and Asian sides of Istanbul under the Bosphorus Strait.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, Sabah said, noting the metro services had returned to normal following a two-hour suspension.
