April 21, 2018

The uber talented Saira Mansoor, a Pakistani Mix Media Artist, Film Maker and Publicist takes out time to chat with us. Find out what she wanted to be as a child, her two wishes and the muse behind her art!

Who is the muse behind your art?

Piet Mondrian, Vincent Van Gogh and Milton Glaser.

What did you want to be as a child?

A textile designer or business woman.

What has been your favourite project till date?

There have been many but the HSY Musafir campaign is one of my favourites. Apart from that, I really like the very first short film that I directed and wrote; Golden Ticket. It was screened at Asia Peace film Festival – Karachi Edition from 23rd – 26th February 2018.

What do you enjoy the most, painting or film making?

Both, I love to create and communicate through arts so it doesn’t really matter what medium I am using. I am blessed to have more than one medium to express my ideas.

If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?

A writer or maybe a choreographer.

Who is someone you envy?

Being envious is a natural feeling, being in the professional field. But I’d much rather focus on my own directions.

Your favourite piece of art?

I have haunted museums and galleries trying to understand the meaning of both beauty and art. I cannot name a favourite piece.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you take with you?

My stationary box, food and water. My camera with extra batteries and internet (oops that’s more than three).

Which are your two favourite careers and why?

Communication design and PR because successful brand campaigns excite me and meeting new people is also a perk that you get to experience in that field. The other one would be Communication Design because you can convey your message through different medium (films, paintings, installations and digital media etc).

What’s the best and worst part of your job?

The best part is that I am exploring a new direction in my life every single day and the worst part is that you can’t take much care of your health due to the crazy schedule.

If you could have only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I am foodie so I can’t be restricted to one meal.

What is the one country you want to visit, that you haven’t already and why?

Greece! It has been an enchanting mystery since my childhood. I have read a lot about Greek art, history, architecture and culture, it really fascinates me.

Can you speak any foreign languages?

I can speak a bit of Italian, and also, a bit of French.

If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive who would it be and what would you say to them?

Oh I have a long list; our Prophet (PBHU), Oprah Winfrey, Van Gogh, Picasso, Shams of Tabraiz, Buddha, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Manto, Chiara Ferragni, Stefano Gabbana (Dolce & Gabbana) Chris Columbus (Harry Potter’s Director), Jalal ul din Akbar, Ranveer Singh, Amal Clooney and so on. I would tell each one of them that they are an inspiration for all those who dream of doing something significant in their lives.

If you could wish for anything that would come true, what would you wish for?

Just positivity and peace.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be?

Nataly Osman or maybe Chiara Ferragni (Italian blogger).

If you were a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?

The power to convince, because sometimes you just cannot convince a human being even on basic points no matter how hard you try. I wish to have the power to change people’s mindsets.

If you get trapped for a month in the last TV show that you watched, how high are your chances of survival?

Sherlock Holmes! I am a team player, problem solver; fun loving, friendly and I have a good sense of humour so I say pretty high!

Who is the one person you would like to work with, that you have not already?

Guillermo del Toro.

What makes a film great for you?

Story, character/cast, timing, visuals and sound.
