Shadbagh food street: Petitioner wants govt to restore green belt

A petition was filed in the LHC challenging plans to set up a food street after removing a green belt from the area.

A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court on Thursday challenging plans to set up a food street after removing a green belt from the area.

The petition was filed by Hafiz Moeen Ahmad through his counsel Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique.

Ahmad told the court that the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) had decided to convert a green belt in Shadbagh Scheme-II area into a food street.

He said this was a violation of a superior court’s orders.

The petitioner submitted to the court the PHA had no authority to convert parks and green belts into buildings.

He said the action was a clear violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens and also went against the Local Government Ordinance 2001.

The petitioner requested the court to set aside the order of setting up a food street in the area and restore the green belt.
