The festival will continue till April 6 and featured different events, including naat and essay competition, bilingual declamation, folk songs, drama and documentary contests etc.
UAF Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar and senior tutor Dr Athar Javed inaugurated the festival. At least 25 educational institutions are taking part in the competitions.
While speaking to participants, UAF VC Iqbal Zafar said that the nations are known for their culture and literature. “We are blessed with rich language, culture and traditions that need to be saved for the coming generation,” he added.
He stressed upon the youth to make literature a part of reading. “Literature is a reflection of the creative inner self. Aesthetic sense leads oneself to creativity that opens up new avenues of thinking.”
“Literature has no boundaries and has helped nations to develop and prosper.”
Senior tutor Dr Athar Javed said that the festival was meant to provide a platform to students to refurbish their abilities
He said the country was blessed with tremendous talent that needed to be tapped. “Such events are essential to promote literacy activities in the country.” On the first day, qirat and naat contests were held. In the qirat competition, Huzafa from Punjab University stood first, whereas Muhammad Ahmad from Al-Qadeer College Sargodha and Tayiba Batool from GC Women University Faisalabad got the second and third positions, respectively.
In the naat competition, Ali Behzad from Punjab University Lahore clinched first position, while Tayiba Batool from GC Women University Faisalabad and Muhammad Saif from Quaid-e-Azam College Sahiwal bagged second and third positions, respectively.
