A two-member bench led by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi of the Lahore High Court, hearing the case against Lahore Development Authority (LDA) former director Ahad Cheema for his alleged involvement in the Ashiana Housing Scheme scandal, was dissolved on Saturday.

Chief Justice Lahore High Court Yawar Ali Khan formed a new bench to hear the case under Justice Qasim Ali Khan and Justice Tariq Abbasi.

The bench will hear the case from the beginning now.

Prior to this, a bench headed by Justice Tariq Ali Baqir Najafi reserved judgement on Ahad Cheema case after hearing arguments from both sides.

Cheema has challenged his arrest by National Accountability Bureau in LHC.

LHC to announce verdict on Ahad Cheema’s petition

The petitioner contended no legal requirements were completed in his arrest and NAB acted beyond its jurisdiction. The petitioner’s counsel told the court that Cheema was being politically victimised through his arrest by NAB. He asked that the arrest be declared null and void.

On the other hand, NAB’s counsel implored that all legal requirements were completed in the said arrest, adding Cheema’s application is not maintainable and should be dismissed. However, the bench reserved the decision on the petition.
