ONE KHAN TO ANOTHER: Younus Khan, the only captain to win the World T20 for Pakistan, says he is a huge fan of Imran Khan, the only skipper to lead the team to the 50-over World Cup.

Pakistan batting legend Younus Khan picked the country’s only 50-over World Cup winning captain Imran Khan as the leader of the pack in his all-time XI.

In a video interview to the Lord’s Cricket Ground’s social media team, Younus, who led Pakistan to their first and only World T20 title, said he was an ‘all-time fan of Imran Khan’.

When asked to name his all-time XI, Younus started by naming his openers.

“I will start with two little masters — Hanif Mohammad and Sachin Tendulkar. Why is that? Because they are both little masters.”

For the one-down position, Younus picked “Jacques Kallis — an all-time great all-rounder”.

Pakistan most prolific run-scorer in Tests then named three West Indies legends in his team for the number four, five and six positions.

“Then the Prince, Brian Charles Lara. Then the King, again another West Indian, Sir Viv Richards. And then Sir Gary Sobers.”

He then praised Richards and Sobers in the following words: “These two will make a very big difference in the team.”

For the wicket-keeping job, Younus chose “Adam Gilchrist, the all-time great wicketkeeper.”

Then came the important bit where he had to select an all-rounder and a captain and he was very clear in his mind of who he wanted. “Then the captain, Imran Khan. The all-time favourite of Younus Khan.”

In the bowling department, Younus’s choices were, once again, exceptional. “Sir Richard Hadlee. The great companion, the fastest bowler. After that the great Glenn McGrath from Australia. The way he performed everywhere made me a great admirer of him.”

His spin option was a Sri Lankan great “Muttiah Muralitharan, the spinner, the king”.

After picking his team, Younus seemed quite impressed with his choices and said: “That’s good. It’s a hell of a team seriously. A strong team!”
