LAHORE: A two-member bench of Lahore High Court (LHC), led by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, reserved its decision on a petition filed by former LDA director Ahad Cheema. The senior LDA official had challenged his arrest by NAB for his alleged involvement in the Ashiana Housing scheme scandal.

The petitioner contended no legal requirements were completed in his arrest and NAB acted beyond its jurisdiction. The petitioner’s counsel told the court that Cheema was being politically victimised through his arrest by NAB. He asked that the arrest be declared null and void.

On the other hand, NAB’s counsel implored that all legal requirements were completed in the said arrest, adding Cheema’s application is not maintainable so it should be dismissed. However, the bench reserved the decision on the petition.
