MULTAN: At least 606 students were awarded degrees at the second convocation of Women University Multan (WUM) on Monday. Medals were also conferred on 26 students of BS and MPhil programmes.

Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafique Rajwana was the chief guest while a large number of people, including faculty members, parents, students and government officials, attended the ceremony.

While speaking to the participants, Rafique Rajwana said parents should not waste the potential of their daughters by forcing them to sit at home and not pursue their studies. “Our girls are hard-working and can compete with boys in every field. This is the reason 90% students, who are receiving medals are girls,” he added.

The governor said that the government had provided opportunities to students at their doorstep. He said a large number of girls were getting education due to initiatives of the provincial government.

“People are aware of the negative political conspiracies that are being hatched against the PML-N,” he maintained. “There are several development projects that were initiated by the government in Multan, including construction of Women University, Nishtar Medical University, Kidney Centre and Mian Nawaz Sharif Agriculture University etc,” Rajwana pointed out.

He said that parents should give their girls a chance to serve their country.

“Students have achieved their degrees and now they should step into practical life because a lot of responsibilities fall on their shoulders.”

The governor advised the students to dream high and put all their efforts to achieve those dreams. He remarked that every girl should play her role in the development of Pakistan.
