Tie Breaker: PTU postpones protests

KHANEWAL: The Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has postponed its May 14 rally and protest meeting after the government accepted some of their demands.

PTU vice president Mohammad Ibad Rana told reporters on Wednesday a notification had been recently issued in this regard.

“A total of ten of our demands out of 20 have been accepted and we are willing to put a stop to protests,” Ibad Rana said, adding that the education secretary had promised to resolve the remaining issues.

“We hope the education officials will hold true to their word and address the remaining issues within the stipulated three months. If they don’t we will continue with the rally,” he added.

The PTU’s hunger strike camp in front of the parliament house on May24 and 25 will still continue as per schedule.
