Violating ban: Several held for pillion riding

Police launches action against motorcycle pillion riders and arrested several violators

ISLAMABAD: Police have held around a dozen men for allegedly violating ban on motorcycle pillion riding in the capital. District authorities had imposed a ban on motorcycle pillion-riding for security reasons on the occasion of Pakistan Day parade.

The ban was imposed for three days, from March 21 to 23, across Islamabad under Section 144 CrPC and police were directed to take action against those violating the ban. However, women, children, the elderly and the media persons were exempted from the ban, as per the orders issued by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Mushtaq Ahmed.

Following the orders, police launched action against motorcycle pillion riders and arrested several violators. Police said at least 21 motorcyclists had been arrested by Friday and booked for violating the ban. Ten motorcyclists were arrested by Sabzi Mandi police while eight were locked up in Shams Colony police station.

Noon police also arrested three motorcyclists from Jhangi Syedan area.
