PESHAWAR: Chamkani police on Friday arrested a man Junaid Khan for killing five members of his brother’s family on Tuesday night in Lala Kalay area of the same police station.

The suspect turned out to be the brother of the victim, police said. According to investigators, Junaid suspected that his brother, Yahya, was to some extent responsible for the disappearance and later murder of their mother and sister.

Police said that Yahya, a government servant, his wife, two children and a sister in-law was found shot dead inside their house in Lala Kalay area of Chamkani police station.

All five had been shot in the head and among the dead was an eight month old infant too.

The attackers had entered the house using the main gate and fled using the backdoor when the neighbours started aerial firing suspecting an armed robbery in Yahya’s house.

“The story of this family is full of tragedy. Two women of the family including Yahya’s mother and sister went missing years ago who were found dead later but the family did not take the bodies alleging bad character.

Then Yahya’s brother committed suicide by jumping under a speedy truck. There are reports that his father also committed suicide and met the same fate,” said a police official, adding that the accused Junaid was in Turkey at the time and he (Junaid) suspected that his deceased brother Yahya Khan had a hand in the disappearance of mother and sister.

“The accused was in Turkey but he returned and committed the brutal homicide with the help of his brother-in-law who is a resident of Hazar Khwani,” said the police official, adding that both the suspects had been arrested and the murder weapon used in the crime had also been recovered.
