Locals allege police were reluctant to register case against landlord

MULTAN: Residents of Haveli Koranga in Khanewal District staged a protest on Wednesday against police for favouring and protecting a local influential landlord in a minor girl’s rape case.

The protesters alleged that the police were not investigating the case properly and using delaying tactics to save the accused.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, the victim’s father Allah Bakhsh said that accused Javed Gujjar and servant Abdul Rehman subjected his daughter A* to sexual assault on March 17.

He added that after committing the offence, the accused dumped her in a farm in an unconscious state. He maintained the child was shifted to a local hospital and underwent treatment for three days before she was discharged. He said soon after her release from the hospital, she was taken to Haveli Koranga police station a case was registered.

However, Allah Bakhsh alleged the police registered an FIR and only nominated Abdul Rehman as a suspect in the case. The protesters demanded of the police to nominate Javed Gujjar in the case and arrest him. They also appealed the provincial chief minister to provide justice to victim’s family.

Earlier on March 15, a young boy who was subjected to sexual assault by police personnel at a private torture cell in Sher Kot near Lahore.

Accused ASI Muhammad Imran was the culprit behind the assault and filmed the crime. He also threatened the boy that he will shoot him dead in a fake encounter.

The assault took place at Ghousia Colony when police personnel lured the victim to the police station on a false pretext. He was then assaulted by policeman Shafaqat while officer Imran filmed the whole incident.

The personnel then locked up the boy in the police station on fake charges of stealing motorcycles. He was also threatened of dire consequences if he told anyone about what had happened to him.
