ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned a grand operation to remove what it calls encroachments along Kashmir Highway in Sector G-12. The civic authority has written letters to Islamabad Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of the Police (IGP) for assistance during the operation to be conducted on Monday morning.
The civic body has requested that the authorities assign two reserves of police and two companies of Rangers at the site to counter resistance and retaliation by the inhabitants and encroachers.
A letter written by CDA Estate Member Khushal Khan to the Chief Commissioner and the IGP says, “CDA intends to restore acquired land on the Kashmir Highway, Sector G-12 whereby various structures have been raised in defiance to CDA Ordinance 1960.” It says owners of many of these illegal structures have also illegally got direct access to roads on the Kashmir Highway.

The authority is apprehensive that the resistance by the people could challenge law and order and has thus sought assistance from the police and Rangers.
The operation will start at 9:30 am on Monday. CDA has requested IGP to assign the sub-divisional police officer and the SHO concerned to provide assistance at the site so as to ensure the successful completion of the task.
ICT administration has already nominated a magistrate to assist the police and CDA during the operation.
CDA’s Director Environment (West) will lead the operation, and all respective CDA formations have been directed to ensure availability of manpower and machinery at the site.
