MULTAN: Senior politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi on Friday warned the country's political leadership, including Asif Ali Zardari and Imran Khan, that the future looks bleak after the introduction of the practice of "vote snatching".

Warning Zardari and Imran that they will be next target of political victimisation while addressing a press conference at Multan Press Club, Hashmi shed light on the "vulgar practices" in Senate elections whereby Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senators polled their votes for an independent candidate by force instead of democratically.

PML-N striving to govern in line with Constitution: Nawaz

Hashmi during the press conference predicted neither Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi nor opposition leader Khursheed Shah would have any say in the formation of a caretaker government. Instead, he said, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would intervene into the formation of the caretaker government. The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan would, however, form the caretaker government, he warned political leadership.

"I plead to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Inter-services Intelligence (ISI), Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Sirajul Haq to please save the constitution. Do not give an opportunity to anyone to break the country," he said.

Hashmi further stated the caretaker set up would postpone the next general elections for an indefinite period and that "constitutional violations have become a fashion." Stating the SC has repeatedly violated the constitution in the 70 years history of the country, he requested the CJP to protect the constitution as he is the "justice instead of ruler."

He further said if he was committing contempt of court, he should be called to appear before the honourable court to explain himself.

Hashmi also stated that Zardari would "be the prime target of political victimisation soon after the formation of the caretaker government," while "nothing would be in the hands of Imran Khan. He will just pay thanks on clearance of his Bani Gala house."

He also said that Nawaz and his daughter will be in jail once the caretaker government will be formed. Stating he fears anarchy in the country, he added "powerful forces must realise they were driving the country to destruction and anarchy." He reiterated loyalty to the Pakistan Army and said he remains "very much committed to the safety of the country."

Internal divide, indecision cost PML-N Senate chairmanship

Hashmi alleged that the dissolution of the parliament was planned two and half years before but he "exposed the whole plan and sacrificed his seat after resigning from National Assembly."

He further complained that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership did not even consult him in the present crisis. "The Senate election was the result of PML-N's poor preparations because the party had forgotten conspiracy hatched two and half years before," he added.
