The Bahadurabad faction of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) suggested on Wednesday Barrister Farogh Naseem's name for Senate chairmanship.

Speaking to media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said there would be progress in the proceedings of Senate if Naseem took the helm.

"I want to pass on this message through you [media] to the leaders in Parliament to take note of this suggestion for the well being of Pakistan," Maqbool said further.

Maqbool also shed light on the issues the party has faced during the past three years, he stated that was the reason why numbers of MQM-P senators has decreased from seven to five.

"A few of our MPAs are forced to stay out of Pakistan. Sindh Assembly had 71 MPAs from Sindh and now they have 35," he stated adding that no party had suffered more than MQM-P on this front.

Maqbool also vowed to fight the delimitation process, stating that Karachi’s 10.5 million people were not listed in the recent census. "This is pre-polled rigging and we will not accept it."

Maqbool also alleged that horse-trading took place in the Senate elections, stating that the money looted from the people was used to buy seats.

Calling Sindh the "backbone of Pakistan's economy", Maqbool said that said that Sindh gives 70-75 per cent share to Pakistan's revenue.

"Even if the world refuses to give aid to Pakistan, Karachi is self-sustaining and will ensure stability in Pakistan's economy," he added.
