Forestry, Environment and Wildlife Department of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) has managed to increase forest areas in the province by 6.3 per cent over the past four years.
Moreover, the provincial cabinet last week approved a motion to waive duty on timber which is imported through seaports whereby it aims to reduce the dependence on local timber for domestic construction usage and help preserve forests of the province.
Over the past four years, 800,000 cubic feet of timber has been imported into the local market, read a statement issued by the Forestry Department.
