Behind bars: Over 3,000 outlaws held in 4 months

Police seized over 161kg drugs, 346 arms and recovered 86 cars during the first quarter.

The capital police claimed to have arrested over 3,000 persons under various charges and seized 161.7 kilograms narcotics, 346 weapons and 86 cars during the first quarter of this years. Police nabbed 589 proclaimed offenders as well as court absconders and seized huge cache of weapons, drugs and recovered looted items worth Rs99.8 million from their possession.


According to a report presented to Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Tahir Alam Khan, a total of 774 beggars were arrested while special crackdown was also launched against the suspected persons in the city.

The report said that 151kg of hashish, 3.751kg heroin, 7.055kg opium, 7,927 liquor bottles, 294 pistols and 18 rifles, 17 guns, five Kalashnikovs, 12 daggers, 2,781 bullets were recovered from the nabbed persons.

As many as 20 gangs of car thieves were busted and 80 car thieves were arrested and 72 stolen and 14 snatched vehicles were recovered from their possession.

Also, 1,132 suspects were arrested from the jurisdictions of different police stations of Islamabad Capital Territory and actions were taken against 68 of them for violating Shop and Security Ordinance.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad police also arrested 125 gamblers and seized stake money and valuables from them. The SSP directed the police officials to make security and vigilance committees more vibrant.
