LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) chairman Shakil Durrani visited the Mirani Dam Project, located in Turbat district of the Makran region in Balochistan.

Durrani said that in addition to executing mega projects, Wapda was constructing medium and small-sized dams throughout the country.

This, he said, was in line with the government’s resolve to uplift remote areas of the country socially and economically by providing water for agriculture and generating low-cost hydel power.

Referring to the completion of Mirani Dam in 2007, the chairman said that it was all the more important for the authorities concerned to develop a command area as early as possible, so that the benefits of the project could be accrued.

Matters related to the complete hand over of the project to the Balochistan government within two years and the development of the command were also discussed during the visit.

The need for deployment of additional bulldozers for land levelling by the Balochistan government was finalised on the directions of the chief secretary.
