Accountability court approves supplementary reference against Ishaq Dar

Four new suspects and more than 10 witnesses were included in supplementary reference against Dar

An accountability court on Monday accepted for hearing a supplementary reference against former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

The hearing of a reference against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz  (PML-N) leader for possessing more wealth than his declared income took place in the accountability court. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) submitted the supplementary reference against Dar in the court.

The documents pertaining to the supplementary reference were brought to the court in two boxes.



According to sources, four new suspects and more than 10 witnesses were included in the supplementary reference against Ishaq Dar. New evidence has also been brought forward.

The court, accepting the supplementary reference, summoned three suspects on February 28. These include National Bank President Saeed Ahmed Khan and the directors of Ishaq Dar’s company, Naeem Mehmood and Mansoor Raza.

The NAB prosecutor, Imran Shafiq, said the supplementary reference consisting of seven volumes has been filed and the details of the suspects’ accounts are also a part of the reference.



The documents mention a transaction of Rs482.8 million. Transactions worth $4.06 million took place in the accounts of the suspects and their detail is a part of the supplementary reference.

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir granted permission on February 14 after NAB prosecutor Imran Shafique filed an application, seeking time to file the supplementary reference.

In the application, the prosecutor said that filing of the supplementary reference had been recommended for approval by the regional bureau and was under process of approval of the NAB chairman.

The court, which has already declared Dar as proclaimed offender, is recording evidence in his absence.

Twenty-eight prosecution witnesses out of 30 have so far recorded their statements before the court in the interim reference against Dar.

Shafique informed the court that the prosecution aims “to bring on record the entire incriminating material through the supplementary reference”.
