HYDERABAD: In the case of a missing journalist who has also been recently booked in two FIRs of police encounters, a court put Hyderabad DIG Javed Alam Odho on notice on Saturday. The district and sessions judge, Amjad Ali Bohyo, ordered the DIG to submit a report concerning the detention or arrest of journalist Kamran Sahito on Tuesday, February 27.

Kamran, who worked as a sub-editor at the Sindh Express newspaper, was allegedly whisked away by policemen from his residence in Naqash Villas, Qasimabad, on February 6, according to his father Mir Ali Sahito. Subsequently, the Jamshoro and Paban police stations in Jamshoro and Hyderabad districts respectively lodged FIRs of police encounters on February 10 and February 11, nominating Sahito among others. He was declared an absconder in the FIRs.

The father, meanwhile, feared that his son might have been shot or injured in a fake encounter. He claimed that along with a few other persons he met his son at the Qasimabad police station a day after his arrest. However, the police deny the confinement or arrest. Kamran was among six persons who were picked up following the January 29 blast in Qasimabad which killed a sanitary worker. But he has not been nominated in FIR of the explosion.
