LAHORE: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) arrested 144 accused, including 53 proclaimed offenders during an operation on the highways during one week.

A PHP spokesperson said the officials also seized 453 litres of alcohol, 5,250 grammes of hashish, 17 pistols, one rifle and magazines from them.

The officials handed over the accused and stolen items to local police for further legal action.

The PHP also recovered five children namely Ayesha Sadiq, Perveen, Fakhar Abbas, Muhammad Hasnat and Fahad Ali and reunited them with their parents. Meanwhile, Hanjarwal investigation police claimed to have arrested two gangsters and confiscated cash, illegal weapons and other valuables from them.

A police team conducted raid and arrested two culprits identified as Qurban and Faisal. The police seized 12 cellphones, cash, illegal weapons and other valuables from their possession.

During interrogation, the accused confessed of committing a number of crimes in the jurisdiction of Sabzazar, Chuhang, Sherakot, Satukatla, Manga Mandi and other police stations. Further investigation was underway.
