Five roads in the city are to be renovated and the district government released funds in this regard on Friday. The roads are to be equipped with traffic parking signals and lanes will be expanded to accommodate traffic. The roads listed for renovations include Jail Road, Zila Council Road, Serena Hotel Road, Jaranwala Road and Sitiana Road.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sardar told a meeting of the District Traffic Management Committee on Thursday that renovation on these roads would begin next week. The CTO briefed the meeting about the project and disclosed that unauthorised encroachments, beggary, vendors, slow-moving vehicles, unnecessary U-turns and roundabouts would be removed from the roads.
The divisional commissioner directed FDA authorities to constitute a subcommittee consisting of engineers and stressed the need for all commuters and district authorities to cooperate with the traffic officials in this regard.
