Instagram introduced its new “type” feature which gives users the option to write their thoughts out instead of always having to put a picture in their story.

“A new way to share anything that’s on your mind with creative text styles and backgrounds — no photo or video required. Now, you can turn your most random thoughts into something colourful and expressive,” according to the blog post.

Simply go to your story and then switch to “type” which appears next to “normal” or “live” in some cases. You then type out whatever you want to and then choose from the different options available. The different options are; Typewriter, modern, neon and strong.

WhatsApp has also introduced this feature for its story settings where you could only type out your thoughts if you wanted to.

Much like Facebook, Instagram now shows when the user was last seen. It reads the time and day as well if need be.

You can also choose a different background colour or highlight the text in any way you like.

“Tap ‘Type’ and write whatever comes to mind — your favourite lyrics, a silly thought or a random idea — and play with different styles to change the look and feel,” according to the blog post.

Recently, Instagram also added a few other features too. There's one where you can add 'GIF stickers.'

Instagram now lets you upload content older than 24 hours to your story

"From bouncing letters and twirling hearts to dancing cats and pizza in space, these animated stickers help you make any photo or video funny, interesting or creative," stated the blog post.

The blog also suggested that a new feature of being able to upload videos and pictures of any size will also be rolled out soon.

"In the coming weeks, we’re also rolling out the ability to upload photos and videos of any size to your story — so you never have to lose part of a photo or cut a friend out of a group video.

When you upload a photo or video, pinch to share it in its original dimensions, whether it’s square, portrait or landscape. Any extra room will be filled with a custom colour gradient that matches what you’ve shared," states the blog post.
