RCB to deploy fleet of 10 mini-dumpers
Vehicles to work in congested areas where large garbage trucks cannot enter

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has purchased 10 mini-dumpers to improve its sanitation services, particularly in congested areas.
The cantonment board has spent over Rs9.795 million for the purchase of these mini-dumpers mounted on Suzuki pickups, said an RCB spokesman.
The measures have been taken to improve the cleanliness services in cantt areas. The purchase of new vehicles would help eliminate the complaints of the residents about the poor sanitary arrangements of the cantonment board in some areas, the spokesman added.
He said the mini-dumpers will be deployed from February 10 in the over-populated areas and in congested localities where heavy vehicles of the cantonment board cannot enter to collect garbage. The approval to purchase mini-dumpers was taken in 2017-18 budget, he added.
He said sanitation services will be improved in Tench Bhatta, Dhoke Syedan, Dhoke Gujjaran, Allama Iqbal Colony, Afshan Colony, PIA Colony, Shehzad Colony, Aliabad, Allahabad, Siham Banni, Misrial Road and some areas of Peshawar Road.
He said the sanitation staff would be deployed to improve the standard of cleanliness. He urged the residents to play their role and dump garbage at specific points.
Chief Sanitary Inspector Waris Bhatti informed that total 56 big and small vehicles were being used earlier to shift garbage and solid waste from Cantt areas while over 600 trash trolleys were also placed in different areas.
Trash power
Capital Development Authority (CDA) has allocated 50 acres of land in Sector I-17 to build a plant for generating energy from 800 tonnes heaps of garbage, collected from Islamabad Capital Territory on regular basis.
CDA Director Sanitation Sradar Khan Zimri said the authority was planning to establish four transfer stations where collection vehicles would transfer garbage onto larger trucks to processing stations.
