NAB files reference against ex-town nazim

Reference submitted states Sharif has a mediocre family background and assets well beyond his earnings

PESHAWAR: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has filed a reference against former town nazim Muhammad Sharif for an alleged corruption of Rs210 million on Monday.

The reference was submitted to an accountability court judge which stated that though Sharif has a mediocre family background he had accumulated money and assets well beyond his earnings.

He was appointed as a junior clerk in the education department in 1977 and resigned as assistant in 1999 without availing any pension and other benefits

He was elected as Naib Nazim of Union Council, Lala Kalay in 2000 and in 2005 , he was elected asTown  Nazim during which he accumulated huge movable and immovable assets in his name  disproportionate to his own sources of income.

The suspect who is a local leader of Pakistan People Party, has purchased plots worth Rs110 million.

NAB reference says that total worth of his assets is Rs210 million. “After thorough investigation, we have found sufficient evidence to file the reference place the case before court,” says the reference.
