LAHORE:

A woman refused on Wednesday to withdraw her case for dissolution of marriage being heard in a family court even when her husband offered to buy her a house worth Rs10,000,000 to do so.

Complainant Ayesha Tahir, a resident of Samnabad, filed a dissolution of marriage case against her husband, Sheikh Tahir Saleem, in the court of family judge Timsal Zaib Syed Naeem.

During the final hearing, on Wednesday, Saleem offered the complainant a house worth Rs10,000,000 if she withdrew her case and returned back to him. She, however, rejected the offer and said that she did not want to live with him any longer.

She told the court that she had married Saleem on July 13, 2000 out of love and gave birth to two children. Her husband, she said, was cruel and short tempered.

She said she had earlier filed for dissolution in July 2007 but he had promised a change in behaviour and she trusted him and had withdrawn her case. However, there had been no change even though he had promised this in front of several family members.

She told the court that her husband had beaten her on occasion. She rejected his offer of a house and stuck to her demand for a divorce. The court dissolved the marriage.
