PESHAWAR: Suspected militants blew up a portion of Government High School Azakhel Payan in Nowshera District early on Wednesday, police said.

Police sources said that a huge blast took place around 2:30am, destroying at least three rooms and a science lab and also partially damaging other rooms in the school. The blast caused panic among the public.

Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) officials said that suspected militants used at least 15 kilograms of explosives in the attack. Police sources said that during the ensuing crackdown, at least 25 suspects including at least 10 Afghans were arrested.

Sources said that four schools have been bombed in Nowshera District during the past month. Police sources said that all four incidents were conducted in a similar manner and it is likely that a single group was behind these attacks.
