An old man was killed by a security guard at a vacant plot after the two exchanged hot words over a petty issue. However, the family did not lodge a formal complaint with the police as the two parties reached a compromise out of police station.
Police said 74-year-old Taj Muhammad Abbassi, a resident of sector I-8/4, had verbal brawl with Rehmat Ali, a security guard deputed at the vacant plot adjacent to Abbassi’s house. He had exchanged hot words with the security guard before the latter pushed him.
The old man fell on his back and his head struck a stone. The wound proved fatal for him. His son Awais Ahmed was also present at the scene. The security guard was taken into custody, however, later he was released as the family of the old man did not want a police case. They declared it an accident and obtained permission from authorities concerned for waiver in conducting of post mortem. However, sources said Abbassi was opposed to the construction of a commercial plaza at the plot adjacent to his house. Raw construction material was being stored at the plot owned by Masood Abbassi.
Locals of the area along with Abbassi had already protested about the building of the plaza claiming it would violate their privacy. However, Masood was not deterred. Police closed the case after the family of the dead man formally agreed not to make a police case.
