Democracy the panacea to all issues

K-P politicians call for backing polls at the stipulated time

PESHAWAR: Despite its problems, democracy is the panacea to all the problems facing the country, fostering cohesion among all state institutions carrying the democratic system forward.

This was stated by political experts who urged political forces to unite for the general elections instead of trying to pit themselves against each other and levelling accusations against each other.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Parliamentary Leader in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Sardar Aurangzaib Nalota said that the day his party completes five years in office in June would be a historic moment.

He pointed out the prolonged agitation and sit-in by the opposition parties as attempts to derail the PML-N’s tenure.

He added that political stability and continuity of policies was imperative for sustained economic growth and development of the country, adding that the parliament was a supreme institution and legislation it passes should be respected by all.

"Interference in each other’s domain would serve nothing except create misunderstanding and confusion which would negatively impact the performance of institutions," Nalota said.

Noting that governments and politicians come and go through the power of the ballot, he called for respecting the sanctity of the mandate provided by voters.

Nalota lamented that the opposition, instead to supporting the government to hold the general elections on time, was busy in aimless agitation to keep their dwindling politics alive.

He also lashed out at the alliance formed by Pakistan Peoples Party, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), terming them ‘political orphans’ who had gathered under the banner of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and to use him to catapult themselves into the power corridors.
