The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has termed the withholding tax on banking transaction as an ‘economic intimidation’ for the business community and called for its immediate withdrawal. The LCCI office-bearers, while talking to a delegation of the All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajran, said the issue of withholding tax is top of the list in terms of priority. They said that the business community has rejected the withholding tax on banking transactions, but concerned authorities are not ready to be realistic. The office-bearers said that though expansion of the tax net is the need of the hour but government would have to find out new ways to increase revenue collection.
