KARACHI: Police have arrested and booked a seminary teacher for allegedly killing a nine-year-old student in Eidu Goth located on the outskirts of Karachi on Sunday.

The incident took place within the limits of Bin Qasim police station.

Though the family of the deceased boy, identified as Muhammad Hussain, refused to lodge a case over the incident, the police itself registered a murder case against the seminary teacher Nizamuddin.

The police said that the accused teacher has been arrested.

Confirming the incident, Bin Qasim SHO Dhani Buksh Marri said that after the family forgave the teacher and refused to register a case, the police registered it on behalf of the state.

The officer, while quoting initial investigations, revealed that the deceased did not want to study and often used to flee from the seminary, adding that the parents took him to the madrasa and handed him over to the teacher. The latter used to beat him with sticks that left him badly injured.

The boy was later taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead. Further investigation is underway.
