KARACHI: Fake cases were lodged against me and other political workers by painting an incorrect picture of the incident in which an Ibrahim Hyderi schoolgirl was allegedly abused, claimed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Senior Vice-President Haleem Adil Shaikh.

In a statement issued on Friday, he said that Malir SSP Rao Anwar alleged that the Naqeebullah Mehsud case was highlighted on social media because Shaikh was booked in a case relating to the Ibrahim Hyderi incident.

He clarified that the cases were completely separate and should not be intermingled. Shaikh said the PTI has always raised a voice for the oppressed masses and will continue to do so. He went on to condemn Naqeebullah’s ‘extrajudicial’ killing.

Regarding the Ibrahim Hyderi case, he said that video footage of the Ibrahim Hyderi SHO, girl’s parents and local residents saying that the guard of the private school had tried to sexually assault the minor girl existed. He lamented that instead of lodging a case against the school guard, fake cases were lodged against him and other political workers. He questioned why Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal visited the girl’s house if she was not attacked. He said a case should have been lodged against the alleged attempted abuser but instead cases were lodged against him and other political workers due to political vendettas against them. He accused local Pakistan Peoples Party leaders of being involved in lodging the fake cases.

Clarification: Meanwhile, PTI leader Arif Alvi, referring a brief news item appearing in The Express Tribune’s January 15, 2018 issue has clarified that he referred to the guard as an 'accused' not 'wrongly accused' as inadvertently published in the paper.
