ISLAMABAD:
The apex poll body has established a control room for receiving preliminary results of the Chakwal by-elections. The by-elections for PP-20 Chakwal-I will be held on January 9, Tuesday. The control room, established by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) at Room 107, would work from 8am to 6pm under the supervision of a director of elections and receive polling day complaints, a statement said. The seat had fallen vacant on October 30 after PML-N MPA Chaudhry Liaquat Ali Khan passed away. The main battle for the constituency would be between the PML-N and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. An Independent Monitoring Wing has also been established in the ECP to oversee pre and post-poll activities and to point out illegal practices, including huge spending on electoral exercises in violation of the law. The commission disclosed that it had prepared data bank of officers and officials.
