PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that research and medical education are the backbone of academic institutions and play a pivotal role in treating and providing care to the people.

He expressed these views at the convocation of the Khyber College of Dentistry on Monday.

“While realising your dreams, you must remember that the road ahead is long but you need to apply the skills you have learnt with honesty and while following the code of ethics,” the governor said.

While entering a new life, which is full of challenges and opportunities, Jhagra reminded the students that they expected to take up the challenges boldly and not to miss opportunities to excel in their profession.

“Institutions require teamwork to grow and this can be achieved by rising above gender, caste, race and regionalism. To do so you must eliminate bias by deciding every issue on basis of factual figures, dignity, transparency, accountability and meritocracy,” he said.

The governor urged young doctors to perform their duties with the aim to serve humanity regardless of their background.

Jhagra later awarded degrees and medals to 68 graduates. Of these, 17 students were awarded gold medals and Rs10,000 in cash awards.

The governor also announced a grant worth Rs1 million for Khyber College of Dentistry.
