PESHAWAR: Having filled vacant posts at health facilities across the province under a Rs3 billion programme, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) health department has now urged medics deputed at these health centres to record short video messages to inculcate a sense of ownership among staffers.

The ‘Aap Ki Khidmat May Hazir Hu’ [Available at your service] campaign has seen staffers including male and female doctors, paramedics as well as nurses record short videos before uploading them on to social media networks to enhance teamwork.

Health officials have termed the initiative a step forward towards providing better healthcare services adding that “a short video clip, and that too of only 10 seconds, can have a huge impact on other health staffers.”

They added that in the era of social media, the videos can help erode the gaps between healthcare providers and patients while developing a bond of trust.

“A video message recorded by Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan had helped thwart a military coup, but just think about what changes can a simple video message bring,” a health official said. The official, while requesting anonymity since he was not entitled to speak to media, stated that healthcare professionals from across the province were uploading videos.

“Even if there are few at the moment, they will bring about visible changes,” a senior health official stated, adding that they were also trying to translate names of critical diseases and precautionary measures into Urdu videos so that the general public understood.
