BHAWALPUR: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday called Nawaz Sharif a ‘man of action’ and said the ruling party delivered on its promises to curb energy shortages.

Inaugurating a gas pumping station at Sadiqabad, PM Abbasi said that when the PML-N had come to power, there was a critical crisis in the energy sector and industries were closed. He maintained that the ruling party had launched key projects, effectively eliminating the energy crisis from the country.

He said that the PML-N also sanctioned crucial infrastructure projects in the public sector and ensured their timely completion.

According to him, there is no other country in the world where 1,800km-long motorway has been built in just four and a half years, adding that even developed countries build just 250 kilometres of motorway in a year.

He said that over the past 45 years, four million natural gas connections were provided while the government issued more than two million new gas connections till June 2018.

The project at Sadiqabad is part of gas infrastructure development. It is a joint venture of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGC), which included the construction of 1,044km-long pipeline by SNGPL and 425km-long pipeline by SSGC.

With the commissioning of the gas infrastructure, volume of gas available for use would double from 1,200 mmcfd to 2400 mmcfd.

The project will augment continuous supply of gas to power plants, industries and domestic users.
