HYDERABAD: Tharparkar remained in a state of mourning and protest on Saturday, a day after two trader brothers of the Hindu community were shot point blank during a robbery.

A shutter-down strike continued for the second day and an almost eight-hour sit-in demonstration on an inter-district road ended after yet another assurance of immediate arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, Mirpurkhas DIG Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh told the media in Tharparkar that the police will soon catch the killers. "We have collected evidence," he claimed.

Separately, the police also released photographs showing two persons riding a motorcycle. Although the still images taken from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera recording seem blurred, the faces of the two men are uncovered and can likely be identified.

The DIG informed that four teams consisting 10 police officers from different districts were formed to conduct a multi-pronged investigation. "Although similar incidents happen in other places, this is the first time that Tharparkar has seen these killings," he acknowledged.

The police also detained two watchmen, Raichand Meghwadh and his son Lonumal Meghwadh, for investigation. Dilip Kumar Maheshwari and Chandar Maheshwari were shot dead while opening their shop on Friday near the Mithi Press Club.

The family members, local community and the traders started sit-in protests on Saturday morning on the road connecting Mithi with Mirpurkhas and Badin districts. They ended the protest after local MPA Mahesh Kumar Malani assured them that the police have collected many leads, including the CCTV footage of the suspected killers.

Speaking to the protesters, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's provincial leader MNA Lal Malhi said the killing of the two brothers was a conspiracy. He added that murder also appeared a continuation of an identical incident in which two Hindu trader brothers Heera Lal Malhi and Ashok Kumar Malhi were shot dead in Umerkot district in August, 2014.
