Corruption complaints against Sindh, Balochistan office holders

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has directed quarters concerned to verify multiple complaints related to corruption and corrupt practices allegedly committed by several public and government office holders from Sindh and Balochistan.

NAB has recently received complaints of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income by Balochistan provincial minister Obaid Jan Babat and Additional Inspector General Police Balochistan Dr Mujeebur Rehman Khan.

It also received complaints against former IG Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali and secretary health Sindh Dr Fazalullah Pechuho for misuse of authority and alleged corruption.

The chairman directed DGs of NAB Sindh and Balochistan to verify these complaints and if found correct formal inquiries should be launched against the accused.

According to details shared by NAB, provincial minister Obaid Jan Babat owns several properties in Pakistan and abroad, that include Rs130 million property in Dubai, two bungalows in Multan, a petrol pump in DG Khan and a costly house in Quetta, and several other properties in Karachi. In a complaint the provincial minister has been alleged of committing corruption as his properties do not match his current income.

The chairman also directed DG NAB Sindh to verify complaints against former IG Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali, Sohail Jamali and others, who have illegally occupied some 2,500 acres of forest land and have been utilising it for cultivation purposes in collaboration with revenue department officials in Sajawal.

Similarly, a complaint against Health secretary Sindh Dr Fazalullah Pechuho for misuse of authority on transferring and posting several officials of Sindh education department during his tenure has also been sent for verification. The complaint will also cover award of contracts of purchasing inferior quality drugs by Dr Fazalullah.

NAB chairman also took notice of alleged corruption by additional IG Balochistan Dr Mueebur Rehman. The complaint verification will cover the allegations of having assets beyond sources of income, corruption reports in funds in petroleum products, purchase, repair and maintenance of official vehicles.
