Govt approves Rs3.96b for projects

A 11.90-kilometre expressway is among the development schemes

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved road sector development schemes worth Rs3.96 billion.

The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), in its 40th meeting of the Fiscal Year 2017-18, approved seven development schemes of the road sector on Tuesday.

Planning and Development Department Chairman Jehanzeb Khan chaired the meeting.

Rs54b spent on constituency development schemes

The approved development schemes included widening and improvement of the 31.5 kilometre road from Bucha Chattah to Harchoki via Kot Fazla Wazirke Dhargaiwala Botala Jhanda Singh and the 10.65 kilometre track from Dhargiwala to Alipur Chattah Nokhar Road, Gujranwala, at a cost of Rs721.22 million.

Also, a scheme was approved to widen and improve the 55-kilometre single road from Noorpur Thal to Jhang Road, via Daduwala, Shah Hussain, Tehsil Noorpur Thal and District Khushab at a cost of Rs595.73 million.

The PDWP had also given a go-ahead for the construction of a 11.90 kilometre double road (expressway) to connect Sangla Hill Interchange with Tibba Shah Behlol, Hafizabad, at a cost of Rs436.63 million. The projects included extension and repair of the 19.82 kilometre road from Grand Trunk Road to Bara Gharan via Khokha and Bodla Kotiyam, including Puli Nullah Ghaan, Jhelum, at a cost of Rs458.65 million.

Also on the cards was the construction of a 17.88-kilometre dual carriageway from Kingra to Sialkot at a cost of Rs607.27 million. There will also be the construction of a carpeted 59.50 kilometre road from Head Faqirian to Kot Momin, Moazzam Abad, Sargodha Road via Right Bank Canal Hujjan Distributary Chak No.16/SB, 15/SB, Tangowali (12' Feet), District Sargodha, at a cost of Rs717.71 million. The plans included the construction of a 24-kilometre road from Manjipur to Manga Pull, Sialkot, at a cost of Rs426.41 million.

Punjab Planning and Development Board Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, members of the board, provincial secretaries concerned, PDWP assistant chief and other senior representatives of relevant provincial departments also attended the meeting.
