LAHORE: In order to make lady traffic wardens’ life easier, the City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) will provide the facility of day care centres during their duty hours.

Chief Traffic Police Officer (CTO) Rai Ejaz Ahmed told The Express Tribune that there were at least 120 lady traffic wardens serving with the traffic police. “The wardens who  have children face a lot of issues in performing their duties. Therefore, to solve their problem, we have engaged 15 day care centres in the city near the traffic sectors and offices of the lady traffic wardens.”

A lady traffic warden can avail the facility for two children at a time. The CTPL will pay Rs5,000 per child from its welfare funds. A committee under the supervision of SP Traffic Asif Siddique has been formed for the functioning of the project. “We intend to establish CTPL’s own day care centre in the long run” he said.

He added that they were discussing the issue with their senior officials and would make a final decision later,” To keep wardens motivated, the CTPL has decided to pay cash awards to 10 wardens every month.

The 10 wardens would be selected among the wardens who deal with victims of road traffic, wardens from education squad, wardens who work 15 helpline, wardens who issue challans and those who help people on roads. A warden from each category would be selected for his/her performance.
