Man chops off wife’s nose in Dera Ghazi Khan for refusing to return home

Police have booked the husband, say he'll be arrested soon

MULTAN: A man was booked on Wednesday for chopping off his wife’s nose at her home in Dera Ghazi Khan when she refused to reconcile with him.

Sameena Bibi had left her husband Rashid Hussain’s house in Faridabad neighbourhood a few months ago following a domestic dispute.

Police said Rashid went to his in-law’s residence to reconcile with his wife. However, when she refused to return home with him, he allegedly sliced off the tip of her nose with a sharp knife.

District Police Officer (DPO) Ahmed Nawaz Cheema told The Express Tribune that Hussain fled the scene soon after.



Rescue 1122 officials rushed Sameena to a trauma centre, where she is said to be in a stable condition.

A case against Hussain was registered at the Choti Zaireen police station under Section 334 of the Pakistan Penal Code, DPO Cheema said. He was confident that the suspect would be arrested soon.

Pakistan is one of the worst countries in terms of women’s peace, security, inclusion and justice, according to the findings of a recent study.

The Georgetown Institute for Women, in its last month’s index, estimated that 27 per cent women in Pakistan suffer lifetime intimate partner violence or domestic violence and their perception of community safety stands at 51 per cent.
