Bar Council strike: Standstill expected at Hyderabad courts

The former chairman of the Sindh Bar Council was gunned down on his way home from the courts in Nawabshah.

All Hyderabad court proceedings will be boycotted on Friday as lawyers strike to protest the killing of the former chairman of the Sindh Bar Council in Nawabshah.


Sindh Bar Council member Advocate Fazl Qadir Memon announced that they will be boycotting the Sindh High Court proceedings and that lawyers will observe a strike on Friday.

Meanwhile, the presidents of the Hyderabad District Bar Association and Functional Lawyers Forum of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional said that they will join the strike as well.

The former chairman of the Sindh Bar Council was gunned down on his way home from the courts in Nawabshah on Thursday. Advocate Ali Muhammad Dahri and his granddaughter were going home from the district and sessions court when four men on motorcycles opened fire at them at HM Khoja Garden Road. The victims were taken to Peoples Medical College Hospital, Nawabshah, in critical condition.

The doctors operated upon the advocate but the 65-year-old man succumbed to his injuries. His granddaughter was undergoing treatment until last reports. DPO Younus Chandio reached the crime scene with his police team while the entire neighbourhood shut down.

Dahri was elected thrice as the president of the Nawabshah Bar Council and was also the district president of the Peoples Lawyer Forum. Sindh Bar Council vice chairman Iftikhar Javed Qazi and other members of the council have demanded that the authorities arrest the killers.
