DI KHAN: A policeman was killed after an attacker allegedly opened fire on a police squad within the limits of Paharpur police station on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off that a suspect was travelling in a vehicle in Pharpur area, a squad from the Paharpur police set up a picket on the Marwan bridge and started snap-checking vehicles. As the suspect vehicle approached the bridge, officials signalled it to stop. As the vehicle pulled up, the suspect opened fire on the policemen. Constable Sannaullah was seriously wounded in the sudden attack. He later succumbed to his injuries. The police retaliated but the attacker managed to flee after sneaking into a nearby dense sugarcane crop. Police cordoned off the area and started a search operation to arrest the perpetrator.
