LAHORE: As the temperature is likely to drop further in the city, doctors have advised locals to take extraordinary precautions to avoid flu.

Mayo Hospital physician Dr Salman Kazmi said that people should keep themselves warm and wash their hands throughout the day as it helps prevent infections. "Wash hands or use a hand sanitiser before and after meeting anyone. Get enough sleep and stay hydrated."

Dr Kazmi said that everybody knew germs could travel through air, but not many people know that most of them catch flu when others are coughing, sneezing or even talking. "The flu virus can linger in the air six feet away from a person carrying an illness. Therefore, it is important to keep your distance from anybody who has a cold or flu."

"People think flu vaccinations are only for infants or the elderly. A quick flu shot can save almost anyone from illness and discomfort," he pointed out.
