Four arrested for threatening Zulqarnain

Sialkot police have booked eight persons in connection with the alleged threats.

The Sialkot police have managed to arrest four accused persons who allegedly made threatening phone calls to test wicketkeeper and batsman Zulqarnain Haider.


Official sources revealed on Wednesday that a police party from the Sambrial police station raided many localities of Sambrial and its suburbs on Tuesday to arrest four men from of Sambrial and Jaithikey.Four other suspects remain at large.

Meanwhile, SP Investigations Sialkot Nasir Munif Qureshi said that about 250 cell phones were recovered from the four accused persons who were nabbed earlier on Wednesday.

During initial investigations, the accused had admitted to making calls to the cricketer. However, the police have yet to find concrete evidence in this connection.

Qureshi also said that an investigation of the data recovered from the 250 cell phones would require almost a week and refused to comment.

Over the past few months, Haider made a number of statements from England claiming that he and his family had been receiving threatening  calls and that a certain mafia was forcing him to quit the game.

Haider returned to Pakistan a few days back. The Sialkot police, with the help of a federal agency, have booked eight persons in connection with the issue and have started investigations.
